My maternity prop closet

When you schedule a maternity session with me you get access to my maternity prop closet! So much easier than having to stress about what to wear for your maternity photo session, when I already have so many for you to choose from! We can often fit in two dress changes πŸ˜‰ (Sometimes if it’s just momma and partner (no extra family) we can fit in 3 changes… sometimes if all the stars align, but only set your heart on two πŸ™‚

In order to photograph with me you REQUIRE a high quality maternity dress for my maternity photos. You have access to my maternity prop closet. Or I will guide you to quality places to buy from. For example unfortunately most of Amazon’s dresses tend to be cheap, thin and don’t photograph well.

  • New dress I just got in BLUE GREY size small. I have photographed it in different colors before and decided to get one for my closet! (I do not have white or green, mine is blue/grey not yet photographed)

Overcast lighting vs sunny sunset

Sometimes I feel like I become a meteorologist. Always checking the weather, will it be cloudy, or sunny, or partly cloudy….. ??

I find the weather is typically reliable 24 hours ahead of time. Even 3 days ahead of time it is sort of reliable, but 24 hours I can typically make a call of if it will rain or not. It still can change when we are out there and if this is the case, oh well, as policies we will continue to make the best of it. But if we can predict, we will do the very best we can.

What happens if it’s overcast? Well we don’t have that beautiful SUNlight for our images. Does it matter, YES I think so. But if you as a client choose to go through with your session anyway, then that is your choice. I just want you to make an educated decision!

Please note I am NOT in control of the weather. If you want sun for your images, then we might have to reschedule a couple times to get it so. But I am willing to work with overcast lighting too. But if your schedule is more important than finding the right day, and you are not willing to schedule around the sun, then we will likely have to shoot in whatever mother nature gives us. Unless it’s full out raining, I won’t shoot in the rain… I won’t get my camera equipment wet.

Often people prefer the images with sun in them are far more appealing than the ones without. I like giving you the very best, and my personal opinion of the best is SUN! I think the proof is in the pudding so to speak, here are some examples. Taken at the SAME location, with the same subjects. Just on a overcast day and a sunny sunset.

On an overcast day there are no shadows, no directional light, it’s flat lighting. The lighting is diffused and comes from everywhere. Look at the children’s eyes, and below to eyes… notice something? They have slight bags under their eyes in the overcast images that they don’t really have in the sunny/directional light images. Because the light is coming from all over, filling in all the crevasses, so if it’s doing that to children, how much older is it going to make you look? Food for thought!

These following images are all with overcast lighting:20180216_0182 web20180216_0120 copy

The following three are with sunny, you can likely tell, but just in case you can’t:

What a HUGE difference don’t you think? The ones with sun have so much more pop and personality!

There is an in between, partly cloudy!Β So that there is light, less clouds more sky, enough to almost act like a sunny day.Β There has to be enough light that is casts a shadow so we can have strong directional light, so I can still get some images with light! If this is the case I will move up our session by 15-20 minutes if it’s going to be partly cloudy, because the sun will go behind the clouds earlier in this case. The risk with partly cloudy is that it can become completely cloudy, so we just have to watch the forecast, and watch the sky too.

Actually you like the overcast images better? Sure why not! These are your images, that will act as your memories. I just want to ensure you’ve made an educated decision. If you prefer overcast day, I’m always rescheduling due to overcast, so I can easily schedule on one of them πŸ˜‰
